Northern Roots Genealogy sprang from my love of family history, and my established link to Lancashire and Northern England going back generations.

When I was 16 my friends mum began asking me for help with her family history. She had a tapestry of a woman who was sewing on the wall that had belonged to a member of the family. There was also a name and a date on it. She wanted to know who she was, and what the date signified.

This sparked my interest, and so came years of research. Back then there wasn't internet records as such. We spent many hours sifting through microfiche and microfilm in libraries, all over Lancashire and Yorkshire, to get the information we needed. Many hours were also spent looking through Record Office documents and Church Parish records.

My own family tree
The next 20 years changed how accessible family history records became. The internet suddenly had documents from all over the UK, that were accessible for all. This made things that I had struggled with in my own family tree much easier. But I did miss sitting looking through those microfilm and microfiche and the original.
Lancashire
Whilst working on mine and my husband's family tree, we became aware that our Northern England roots were well and truly established for many generations. Many of our ancestors were working class northern families who worked in cotton mills or mines. Records were hard to come by, and some made no sense at all, but every single page told a story of a relative long passed, and that is what I loved. This tree had turned into an unbelievable piece of history, and I am really hoping that it survives long after us. Â
So I decided after many years of doing this family tree, that I would use all my knowledge that I had gained to help others find the family histories of people who have long passed in body, but their spirit comes through in all sorts of documents. It is truly amazing how much information can be found out if you have the patience and the willingness to look for it.
Through discoveries in my own tree, information has come to light that has shocked and upset me, but other information brought me joy and happiness. However I pride myself on always finding out the facts, and providing truthful and honest information to customers.Â
